Due to overwhelming popularity, mostly by me, I’ve decided to extend Retro week into a two-week adventure. I was busy all last week and didn’t have a chance to expand as much as I wanted to in the three posts I had, so thus, retro week will continue as planned in all it’s incredible glory.

Retro Week: Books

Reader beware you're in for a scare. My all time favorite series of books when I was a kid was goosebumps. It prepared me for my current love for Horror movies and Steven King, and to a lesser extent Dean Koonz. Great, quick reads with all the classic scary monsters and cliff-hangers, perfect for developing minds. I know whenever I pass a theme park I think how cool it would be if it was Horrorland. I'm still afraid of getting my picture taken and dying like in the Classic "Say Cheese and Die" and I'm terrified by ventriloquists forever thanks to not one but two sequels to Night of the Living Dummy. Thank you R.L. Stein for making my childhood a little more scary.

Retro Week: Video Games and their Music

This is a double whammy post. Not only will we relive some of the coolest video games from our childhod, but we'll be able to hear some of the amazing music from these games, keeping in mind what was available, it's incredible what they could do with just bleeps and bings.

Ducktales the game:
Not only was this game awesome, it was fun to play again and again. This sample is from the moon stage.

Who didn't love to balst away at pixelated ducks. The following is what happens when you "beat" the game. I always thought they should have a game when you just shoot the dog.

TMNT the game. This was the original game, not as cool as the sequel which was incredible, but still a great game that gives my brain the warm fuzzies.

The best game ever. Super Mario 3, this game is so classic. I once played a head to head battle against my friend trying to see who could beat it without using whistles. I won in the last three seconds. It was intense. Check out this amazing boss music.

I still can't believe this game was for kids. So hard!

Retro Week: Cartoons

In honor of me reaching my quarter-life, I've decided to honor the awesomeness that helped me along the way. So this weeks blog is dedicated to all things retro, from TV shows, video games, commercials, and everything else in between.

I'm going to start this off with one of the biggest influences of my life. Cartoons. I loved them, and still do to this day. My personal top ten list is as follows:

Cartoons are fantastic and it's really too bad that all the cartoons geared for kids now are total drivel.

Lord of the Trailers

This movie has been gathering buzz like a flock of angry bees and now I see why. After going to the new X-men movie I got to see this wonderful teaser for a Peter Jackson produced summer movies. I won't give away any secrets here, but watch the trailer. It could very well be the next Cloverfield, hopefully better.

Cool, rainy songs

By far one of the most useful podcasts out there. This Seattle based radio station lets you download a song a day from their library. Once you download the song, it's yours to keep. It's a great way to add to your music collection and also a great way to expand your musical tastes. The songs are always from bands and artists that you'd never heard of, or are flying very low on the radar. It's a great way to listen to a new song every day.

Just stop it iPhone

Iphone apps are beyond ridiculous. Some of the most popular apps don't even do anything. They're just dumb little shows that big, sweaty guys like to show off at a bar to their big sweaty posse. When I heard about the Zippo app, which lights a simulated zippo, I cringed, when I heard about the drink a beer app where you "chug" a virtual beer on your iPhone by tilting towards your mouth, I had choice words.
Now comes the much anticipated Isnort, which lets you simulate snorting cocaine. It's bad enough your a douche bag with an iPhone that you pull out every two seconds, but do you have to annoy the rest of the world too? Check out this charmer go through a demo of iSnort.

Faster, stronger, awesomer!

The coolest song with the coolest video now has the coolest website. At Daft Punk Your Keyboard you can mix your own sample of Daft Punk's Harder, faster, stronger. It gives you the beat and you add the appropriate words at the right times. Or for even more fun, try to mix your own version with the 12 different phrases available. Sure to entertain for minutes!

What are the two things that every alpha male in America loves. Boobs and football. Now I'm not saying I don't like either of those wonderful things, but how dumb is this going to be. How exciting of a game could it be? Here's what I predict. The first game will have decent rating and a sold out game full of muscle-headed dudes who all told their wives they were going hunting and after all these viewers realize that you can see way hotter action at any free porn site, they will start to loose interest. I mean seeing girls in frilly lingerie beating each other up is great, but does it have legs? (Pun definitely intended)

Now could this have started as a legit attempt to get women into an actual football league? Was it something that started out as empowering women and then got in the hands of some chauvinistic television producer who decided to find the hottest, toughest girls and make them tackle each other in their underwear. (Actually typing that sentence got me kinda hot, so maybe they are onto something)
My other favorite thing about this whole new football league are the names. my favorites are Dallas Desire, San Diego Seduction, and Seattle Mist.
Yes it's chauvinistic, yes it's sexist, but damn it all it's going to be popular, and who knows, we may even see a nipple slip.
